Partnering with Faculty in Creating a Culture of Care: Transitioning Back to In-Person Instruction

Presentation Description: As we transition back to in-person instruction it will be important to expand our culture of care for our campus community.  By creating an environment of support, students in distress may seek help before issues rise to the crisis level. During this presentation for UC Merced faculty and staff, participants will learn about our student population, anticipated social and mental health behaviors post remote-learning, recognizing signs of distress, strategies for reaching out to students, effective referrals, the resources available on campus to assist students and faculty, information about what takes place after a report is submitted, and best practices in creating a culture of care in the classroom. Additionally, participants will learn about the Behavior Intervention Team (BIT), reporting options, and resources dedicated for faculty and staff.
